The left-arm spinner registered figures of 5/5 against Malaysia at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur
Vaishnavi Sharma, on January 21 (Tuesday), became the first Indian and third bowler overall to claim a hat-trick in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup. Making her debut, the left-arm spinner registered figures of 5/5 against Malaysia at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
Vaishnavi was the last Indian bowler to be introduced into the attack after Malaysia were asked to bat first in the Group A encounter of the ICC Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025.
The 18-year-old first dismissed Nur Dania Syuhada in the eighth over before knocking Nuriman Hidayah over on the first delivery of the 10th over.
Vaishnavi registered her hat-trick in the 14th over by dismissing Nur Ain Binti Roslan, Nur Isma Dania and Siti Nazwah in three consecutive deliveries. While the first two were pinned on the pad right in front of the stumps, Nazwah was out bowled.
South Africa’s Madison Landsman and Rwanda’s Henriette Ishimwe (four wickets in four balls) had also registered hat-tricks in the 2023 edition of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup.
Malaysia were bowled out for 31 in 14.3 overs and it took India just 2.5 overs to finish the run-chase. Gongadi Trisha slammed 27* off 12 as India won the game by 10 wickets.
With two wins in as many games, India are currently at the top of the points table in Group A. They will play Sri Lanka, who are also unbeaten, on January 23 (Thursday).
