Oval Invincibles became back-to-back champions of The Hundred men’s competition with a resounding victory over Southern Brave at Lord’s.
With Southern Brave chasing 148 for victory, the game was in the balance before three wickets in six balls from Saqib Mahmood ripped the stuffing out of Brave and saw Invincibles become the first side to register four trophies across the men’s and women’s competitions.
Mahmood removed Leus Du Plooy, Kieron Pollard and Laurie Evans in the space of six deliveries to put a dent in Southern Brave’s hopes. Earlier, it was a stellar batting display from Will Jacks, who raced away to 37 off just 22 balls, that brought the Lord's to life.
Once Jacks got out, the duo of Jordan Cox and Sam Curran made useful contributions before a cameo from Tom Curran, an 11-ball 24, lifted the Invincibles to 147/9, with Tymal Mills (3/33) and Akeal Hosein (3/34) putting on a show with the ball for the Brave.
While it definitely required a record-breaking attempt from the Brave, they failed to cross the line, handing the Invincibles their second title in as many years. Adam Zampa, too, chipped in for the Brave, with figures of 2/26, with wickets of Alex Davies and Chris Jordan.
