With a 17-run win against Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW), Barbados Royals have on August 26 (Monday), Barbados Royals became the first team to qualify for the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2024 final. The Royals managed to put up just 101 on the board, with Qiana Joseph top-scoring with 19. Chamari Athapaththu (15), Aaliyah Alleyne (18) and Laura Harris (14) chipped in with useful runs at the top, but in the end, Guyana kept things tight to restrict their opposition to a low total on a slow track.
Erin Burns was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/31. Chloe Tryon and Shabnim Ismail too chipped in with a couple of wickets apiece.
In reply, the Warriors' chase never really had any momentum, as they were reduced to 25/3 in the powerplay. Hayley Matthews picked up four scalps, while left-arm spinner Joseph chipped in with three to dent the opposition, who eventually could muster just 84.
The Warriors can still qualify for the final on August 29 (Thursday) if Barbados beat Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the final game of the tournament on August 27 (Tuesday) in Trinidad.
