One year after falling agonizingly short of lifting the title, it was redemption for Mysore as the Karun Nair-led side beat Bengaluru Blasters by 45 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on September 1 (Sunday) to lift the Maharaja T20 Trophy for the first time in their history.
On a cool evening in Bengaluru, the Blasters won the toss and put Mysore into bat. The Warriors lost Karthik CA early but an 81-run stand between SU Karthik (77) and skipper Nair (66) put them into a fantastic spot. After a stumble, it looked like Mysore had squandered the great start as they slipped to 167/4 mid-way through the 18th over, but a stunning assault from Manoj Bhandage (44* off 13) propelled the Warriors to 207. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) man, in his 13-ball stay, hammered as many as five sixes.
With the ball, Mysore then got off to the perfect start, with speedster Vidyadhar Patil castling Mayank Agarwal in the very first over of the chase. LR Chethan (51) showed some fight for the Blasters, but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and that proved to be fatal.
Eventually, thanks to Patil’s 3/19 and Krishnappa Gowtham’s 2/23, the Warriors registered a 45-run victory to lift the title.
