Team India superstar Rishabh Pant was supposed to be the centre of attraction in the clash between Purani Dilli 6 and East Delhi Riders on August 20 (Tuesday), but in what came as a major disappointment for the fans, the wicket-keeper batter sat out the contest, with Lalit Yadav instead captaining the Purani Dilli side.
But a change in captaincy did not change Purani Dilli's fortunes, as they slipped to their second consecutive defeat of the tournament.
In a rain-curtailed 18-over clash, Purani Dilli batted first and scored 142/8. They were reeling at 63/7 at one point and that was thanks to the brilliance of Chennai Super Kings’ Simarjeet Singh, who removed three of the top four inside the powerplay. But lower-order batters Mayank Gusain and Yug Gupta dragged Purani Dilli to a competitive total.
That was to no avail, however, as East Delhi chased the target with two overs to spare. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Anuj Rawat failed, but his namesake Mayank Rawat (55* off 27) played a blinder to help East Delhi make it two wins in two.
