Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq sacked from Pakistan's selection committee

The decision comes after Pakistan's poor performance in the recent T20 World Cup, where they crashed out in the group stages

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on July 9 (Tuesday), that former Pakistan cricketers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq have been sacked. While Razzaq was part of the men's and women's committees, Riaz was involved with only the men's side. The decision comes after Pakistan's poor performance in the recent T20 World Cup, where they crashed out in the group stages, including defeats at the hands of the USA and India.

The Babar Azam-led side missed out on a chance to make it through to the Super 8s but finished the tournament with wins over Canada and Ireland.

"The decision was taken following feedback from various stakeholders, including players and support staff, regarding the promotion and selection of certain players despite reservations from other members," sources told Cricbuzz.

PCB have also confirmed that the new committee members and structure will be announced in due course. Wahab was initially the chief selector and was later named one of the seven members of the selection committee. In fact, the former pacer travelled with the Pakistan side for the T20 World Cup as a senior team manager.

Over the last four years, Pakistan have had as many as six chief selectors: Wahab, Mohammad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid, and Misbah-ul-Haq.

Pakistan team's next assignment is the home Test series against Bangladesh in August-September, after which they welcome England for a three-match series in October.
