It was a day of good news for domestic performers as after Abhimanyu Easwaran was named in India’s squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, Punjab’s Ramandeep Singh and Karnataka’s Vijaykymar Vyshak received their maiden national call-ups after they were named in the 15-member squad for the South Africa tour, which will include four T20Is.
The team that will face up against Proteas will be led by regular T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav and will feature seasoned T20 campaigners such as Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel.
Apart from Axar, Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakaravarthy are the other two spinners in the squad. Along with Vyshak, Yash Dayal, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan are the other pacers.
Among batters, Surya will be aided by the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Tailak Varma. Jitesh Sharma is the second wicketkeeper-batter alongside Samson.
Due to injuries, Shivam Dube and Mayank Yadav were not named in the Men in Blue squad for the four-match series that will begin on November 8 in Durban. Riyan Parag has been referred to BCCI’s Centre of Excellence to get long-term resolution of his chronic right shoulder injury
