Kohli, Pant named in Delhi's probable squad for remaining Ranji Trophy fixtures

However, it remains to be seen if Kohli and Pant do feature in Delhi’s remaining two Ranji Trophy fixtures

On January 14, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) named Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in their probable squad for the last two rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024/25. Earlier this day, Rohit Sharma was also seen linking up with the rest of the Mumbai outfit ahead of their Ranji Trophy clash against Jammu and Kashmir.

“Both Virat and Rishabh’s names are in the probable list. The Ranji Trophy camp is underway. Virat should take inspiration from the Mumbai cricketers and play for Delhi in domestic cricket, whenever he is available," DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma said.

Kohli’s own personal form has been quite questionable, with just 190 runs in the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, averaging 23.75. DDCA’s secretary also questioned the Delhi cricketing culture, stating that they don’t turn up for matches even if they are available.

“See in Mumbai, there has always been a culture where their India players turn up for Ranji matches whenever available. It is missing in the North, especially in Delhi."

However, it is yet to be ascertained whether both of them would indeed take part in either of the last two Ranji Trophy matches, considering the jam-packed calendar in front, starting with ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

“The BCCI has also mentioned players should participate in domestic cricket. I feel Virat and Rishabh should play at least one game, but I don’t think they will,” he added.

Delhi’s next fixture in the tournament is against Saurashtra on January 23 in Rajkot.
