When India decided against enforcing the follow-on against Bangladesh despite taking a 227-run lead in the first innings, the hosts’ second innings was seen as a golden opportunity for skipper Rohit Sharma to get some runs under his belt after a disappointing first outing.
After being inserted into bat on Day 1, Rohit had an innings to forget, getting dismissed for 6 off 19 balls.
The right-hander started the second innings off confidently with a boundary off his first ball, but ultimately disappointed once again, falling in identical fashion to the first innings — caught at slip — for just 5.
The 5 (7) in the second innings meant that Rohit endured an unwanted nine-year first. For the first time since 2015, the 37-year-old ended up getting dismissed twice for single digits in the same home Test.
The only other instance of him getting dismissed for two single-digit scores in a home Test was back in 2015 against South Africa in Delhi, where he registered scores of 1 & 0.
In fact, this was only the fourth time in his career that Rohit ended up registering two single digit scores in the same Test.

1 & 0 vs SA, Delhi, 2015
5 & 0 vs SA, Centurion, 2023
6 & 5 vs BAN, Chennai, 2024
With the twin failures, Rohit’s Test average against Bangladesh has dropped to 8.80. It’s the worst for any top seven batter against the Tigers in Test history.

8.8 - Rohit Sharma

Bangladesh continue to remain the only side against whom Rohit has not scored a Test fifty.
