Trent Bridge’s Pavilion End to be renamed in honour of Stuart Broad

Broad, who played his domestic cricket for Nottinghamshire, is one of the most celebrated heroes of the county

Trent Bridge in Nottinghamshire, which will host the second England-West Indies Test, starting July 18 (Thursday),  will officially rename its Pavilion End to the Stuart Broad End ahead of the start of the game.

“Ticket-holders for day one of the Trent Bridge Test are advised to take their seats by 10.40 am as we officially rename the Pavilion End of our venue in honour of Stuart Broad,” Nottinghamshire CC said in a statement.

Broad, who played his domestic cricket for Nottinghamshire, is one of the most celebrated heroes of the county. He will be joined by his father, Chris Broad, a former cricketer and match referee himself, for the official unveiling. Chris is also the club President at the Notts, as the county is popularly known.

"I'm delighted that the Nottinghamshire Committee decided that Stuart should be remembered in this way. To have an end named after him is a complete delight," Chris said.

Broad, who picked up 604 wickets in 167 Tests between 2007 and 2023, finished his career with a six off the last ball he batted and a wicket off the last ball he bowled in his last Test at The Oval in July 2023. That Ashes match marked the end of the 38-year-old’s Test career as England drew the series 2-2.

Revealing his son Stuart Broad’s first reaction when the announcement was made earlier during the County Championship, Chris said that he felt surreal hearing the announcement of bowlers bowling from the Stuart Broad End.

"I took a picture of the scoreboard and sent it to Stuart, and he was a little bit emotional seeing his name up there. I'm so proud and privileged to see him being given that honour,” said the 66-year-old.

England lead the three-match series after winning James Anderson’s farewell Test at Lord’s by an innings and 111 runs. Broad is a commentator for this series with Sky Cricket as well.
