After a record-breaking 80 (25) in the first T20I, Travis Head got out for a first-ball duck in the second fixture of the three-match series against Scotland on Friday (September 6).
The left-arm pacer Brad Currie bamboozled Head with an in-swinger, which went through the opener’s defences to hit the top of the off stump. This was the third first-ball duck for Head this year in T20s, joint-most for an opener in 2024, alongside South Africa's Reeza Hendricks.
Two of these first ball ducks for Head came against left-arm pacers — vs Arshdeep Singh in the SRH v PBKS clash in Indian Premier League 2024 and today against Currie. The other golden duck came against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL final, where he was undone by Vaibhav Arora. In the Qualifier 1 of the same event, Head was bowled for a second ball duck by another left-armer, Mitchell Starc.
Hendricks suffered this fate twice during the T20 World Cup 2024 in June, once against West Indies and Bangladesh, each alongside a golden duck in the CSA T20 Challenge.
Australia, however, revived themselves after a shaky start. Josh Inglis and Cameron Green put on a quickfire 50-run stand as Australia finished the powerplay at 55/2.
