Tom Kohler-Cadmore has been added to England's One-Day International (ODI) squad for the remaining two matches against Ireland. The Somerset batter will replace Joe Root, who was added to the squad for the first ODI on his request, but it was washed out without toss. Jason Roy was initially offered a spot but has refused to play in England's second-string side. Roy was recently omitted from the World Cup squad, paving way for Harry Brook.
The second ODI take place at Trent Bridge on Saturday (September 23).
"He wasn't expecting to be in that Ireland squad, and then to get the news that he was missing out on the World Cup all came as a bit of a hammer blow," Wright said on Monday (September 18)
"We've made it apparent to Jason that we won't judge him differently for that position as the spare batter at the top of the order whether he plays against Ireland or not."
Kohler-Cadmore is currently in Kent, where Somerset are taking on Kent in Taunton. He is expected to link up with his England teammates after the game concludes on Friday (September 22). Kohler-Cadmore has played 56 List A games so far and has hit 1,808 runs at 34.11, including three centuries and 10 fifties.
Kohler-Cadmore has been impressive across formats for Somerset since leaving Yorkshire at the end of last season. He played a pivotal role in the T20 Blast, helping his side clinch the title for the first time since 2005.
