Tim Paine has secured a surprise call-up to the Big Bash League after Cricket Australia handed Matthew Wade a one-match ban after incurring three Level One Code of Conduct breaches within 18 months. Wade has been suspended after charges in that period relate to two instances of use of an audible obscenity and one instance of abuse of cricket equipment.
Paine has represented Tasmania three Sheffield Shield matches this summer but his last appearance in the Big Bash League came way back in February 2018. Even though Paine has been added to the set-up, it is unlikely that he would get a chance to play, with Ben McDermott likely to lead and take the gloves while adding a specialist batter to the team.
Wade was the top scorer for the franchise with a 51-run knock against Perth Scorchers in their only win in the tournament. They are currently sitting at the sixth spot in the tournament after two defeats earlier in the season.
