The India ‘A’ squad for the Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 was announced late on Saturday, October 12. The 15-member squad will be led by left-handed batter Tilak Varma, who has played for the Indian senior side and been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians' setup in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Eight teams will participate in the competition, which will begin on October 18 in Oman. Notably, this is also the first time the tournament is being held in the T20 format.
India A are placed in Group B along with Pakistan A, UAE and Oman. Meanwhile, Group A has Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Afghanistan A and Hong Kong. The top two teams in each group will make to the Semi finals, with the final being held on October 27.
The squad selected by India has an abundance of players from Punjab, the team that won the last edition of India’s premier domestic T20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. As many as four players in 15 are from the North Indian state, including swashbuckling opener Abhishek Sharma, allrounder Ramandeep Singh, wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh and allrounder Nehal Wadhera. All four of them play in the IPL.
Haryana’s left-arm spin-bowling allrounder Nishant Sindhu and Delhi’s batters Ayush Badoni and Anuj Rawat make up the batting resources of the team.
In bowling, pace department has Haryana's Anshul Kamboj, Himachal Pradesh's Vaibhav Arora, Jammu and Kashmir's Aqib Khan and Rasikh Salam. Meanwhile the spin department includes Delhi off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen, Tamil Nadu's left-arm spinner Sai Kishore and Rajasthan leg-spinner Rahul Chahar.
