The Hundred 2024 stars so far

James Vince (Southern Brave)

James Vince is having another spectacular season in The Hundred as he has scored most runs in this tournament so far (310). He has smashed four 50+ scores in six innings and is the only player to have crossed the 200-run barrier. His outstanding showing as an opener has played a key role in Southern Brave standing second on the points table.

Sam Curran (Oval Invincibles)

Sam Curran has been the best player of this season so far. He has stepped up in both departments as he is the second-highest run scorer in tournament with 176 runs and is also the joint-highest wicket taker with 13 wickets.

Curran has so far smashed two 50+ scores, has a strike rate over 175 and has also picked up a five-wicket haul. That came against London Spirit, in which he also picked a hat-trick. On the back of that contest, Curran became the first player in T20 cricket history to score a fifty with the bat and take a five-wicket haul in the same match on two separate occasions.

Chris Jordan (Southern Brave)

Chris Jordan has been terrific with the ball for Southern Brave this season. The 35-year-old stands as the second-highest wicket taker with 11 wickets in six games. Remarkably, Jordan has not gone wicketless in either of the six games he’s played. The right-armer has played a big part in the Brave’s stellar start to the season, having taken 9 wickets at an economy of 7.60 in the games they’ve won.

Haris Rauf (Welsh Fire)

Haris Rauf is having a good campaign here after a poor Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 where he picked just four wickets in 9 games. In contrast, so far this tournament, he has picked nine wickets in four games at an average of 7.3, which is the best among all bowlers. Though Welsh Fire have had a terrible start to the season (sixth on the table currently), Rauf’s showing has been a silver lining for the side.

Tymal Mills (Southern Brave)

The third player from Southern Brave in this list, Mills has picked up 11 wickets so far, which is the joint-second highest in the tournament. Midway through the competition, he became highest wicket taker in the tournament's history (35), going past Adil Rashid (34). He bowled one of the spells of the tournament against Welsh Fire (4/16), where he completely dismantled his opponents with his pace and variations.

Those who failed to make it work

Dawid Malan (Oval Invincibles)

Dawid Malan is having a terrible season in The Hundred 2024 for the Oval Invincibles. He has scored just 100 runs in six games, striking at 83, which is the second-lowest for a batter this season. Opening the batting, the southpaw has found no rhythm whatsoever, registering a strike rate over 100 in only two games. Malan played arguably the worst knock of the tournament against Southern Brave, amassing just 14 runs in 31 balls.

Will Jacks (Oval Invincibles)

Will Jacks has been another dud performer for Oval Invincibles in this season of The Hundred. The big-hitting right-hander has found it tough going, scoring just 87 runs in six innings at an average of 14.5. He has gone past the 30-run mark only once in six attempts, registering four single-digit scores.

Matthew Short (Northern Superchargers)

Matthew Short has had a torrid time for the Northern Superchargers. Opening the batting, the right-hander has completely failed to get going, scoring just 40 runs in five games at an average of just 8.00. It’s the lowest average among all batters this season. Short has gone past the 15-run mark just once in five games this season and has been a walking wicket for his team.

Tom Curran (Oval Invincibles)

Tom Curran is balancing the positive and negative ends for the Curran brothers as he has had a contrasting season compared to his brother. In the four games that he has played, Curran’s managed four wickets in one game and has gone wicketless in the remaining three. His economy, however, has been through the roof: his E.R of 10.00 is the third-highest among all bowlers in the season.

Andre Russell (London Spirit)

Andre Russell has not lived up to the ‘big overseas signing’ tag for the London Spirit this season. The Jamaican all-rounder has been the most expensive bowler this season, going at an economy of 11.4 while managing just one wicket in five innings. With the bat, he has managed 85 runs in five games and has failed to step up in crucial moments. It is not a surprise, thus, that the London Spirit find themselves seventh on the points table.

What else has happened this season?

Two ‘retired outs’ so far this season

The Hundred 2024 became the fifth tournament in T20 cricket history to witness two retired outs. Oval Invincibles’ Sam Billings, while batting on 17(22) against London Spirit, retired out himself, allowing Donovan Ferreira to bat in the last 13 balls. By doing this act, Billings became only the third captain after Carlos Braithwaite and Shahid Afridi to retire out in T20 cricket history.

In the second instance, Wayne Lee Madsen of Manchester Originals, while chasing 122 against Oval Invincibles, strategically retired out himself and allowed Sikandar Raza to come out to and face the last 15 balls. The move unfortunately did not pay off, with the Originals falling short by three runs.
