Tamim Iqbal to lead in Afghanistan ODIs; Shakib returns

All three matches will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium respectively, starting on July 8

After securing a thumping win against Afghanistan in the one-off Test, Bangladesh have announced a 15-member squad for the three-game ODI series against Afghanistan, with Tamim Iqbal leading the side.

Shakib Al Hasan, who missed the one-off Test against Afghanistan due to a finger injury sustained during the ODI series against Ireland in May, has returned to the side as well. The series will also see the return of Mohammed Naim, who scored 932 runs in 16 games at an average of 71.69 in the Dhaka Premier League.

While Afif Hossain has been recalled to the squad, the likes of Rony Talukdar, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury and Yasir Ali failed to retain their place in the ODIs squad. "This is the last series before the Asia Cup and we want to see some players and that is the reason we have picked Naim and Afif Hossain," BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz.

"Both( Afif and Naim) of them played in domestic circuit to earn their spot back in the team. Mrittunjoy could not retain his place as Taskin returned while we are thinking of Rony Talukdar in the T20I format. As far as Yasir is concerned we are not considering him in the ODIs for the time being," he added.

All three matches will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium respectively, starting on July 8.
