How have Babar, Shaheen & others fared in Champions One-Day Cup 2024?

A look back at how the teams and some key players have fared in the initial stages of the competition

Champions One-Day Cup Results so far

Wolves beat Panthers by 160 runs

Stallions beat Lions by 133 runs

Panthers beat Dolphins by 50 runs

Markhors beat Stallions by 126 runs

Panthers beat Lions by 84 runs

How did the big guns fare?

Babar Azam (Stallions)

There have been a lot of question marks over Babar Azam’s form, but in his two innings in the tournament, he has played two crucial knocks at a good pace. Against the Lions in the first game, he scored 76 off 79 deliveries to help the Stallions to 336/5. He played a lone hand in the next match against Markhors, hitting a run-a-ball 45, but his side fell short by 126 runs in pursuit of 232.

Shaheen Afridi (Lions)

Pacer Shaheen Afridi has been a tad on the expensive side but has been amongst the wickets. Against the Stallions, Afridi picked up 2/63 (Econ 6.3), including the wicket of Babar, when the opposition scored 336.

In the next game against the Panthers, the left-armer picked up 3/57 (Econ 5.79), which propelled the Lions to a comprehensive 84-run victory.

Shadab Khan (Panthers)

Shadab Khan’s 45-ball 65 against the Dolphins proved vital as his side managed to get to 328 after Usman Khan’s 111. However, in the next game, he stepped up with both bat and ball, slamming 37 off 29 and then returned with figures of 3/42 as his side romped to an 84-run victory.

Imam-ul-Haq (Lions)

In the two games so far, Imam-ul-Haq has had to take responsibility for getting the side off to a good start, given that he lost his opening partner early. In the first game against the Stallions, Imam scored 78 off 83, and in the second match against the Panthers, he scored 60 off 62, but on both occasions, his side finished second-best.

Naseem Shah (Markhors)

Naseem Shah had a decent Test series against Bangladesh, picking up a couple of three-wicket hauls. He has not taken the One-Day Cup by storm but has done his job well in both matches. In the first match against the Panthers, Naseem was the pick of the bowlers for his side, finishing with 3/27, as his side bowled the opposition out for just 187.

He continued his excellent form in the next game against the Stallions, removing both the openers before finishing with 2/24 to help the Markhors make it two in two.

Mohammad Rizwan (Markhors)

Captain of the Markhors, Mohammad Rizwan, has gotten off to a couple of starts in the first two games, but a big score continues to elude them. On both occasions, though, he has not been able to score at a brisk pace. In the first game against the Panthers, he scored 45 at a strike rate of 78.94 in a score of 347. In the next one against the Stallions, he hit 33 at a strike rate of under 85 in a score of 231. He will hope to kick on as the tournament goes on.

Haris Rauf (Stallions)

Haris Rauf started off the tournament well, as he was the pick of the bowlers in his side’s 133-run victory over the Lions. He finished with figures of 3/43, which played a huge role in bowling the opposition to just 203. However, in the next game against the Markhors, he went wicketless but still was the most economical bowler for his side, giving away just 30 runs in seven overs.
