St Lucia Kings add Heinrich Klaasen Noor Ahmad for CPL 2024
The franchise has retained Faf Du Plessis, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and David Wiese among their overseas players
St. Lucia Kings have announced their retentions and two new signings for the forthcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) ahead of the player draft in July.
The franchise has signed South Africa batter Heinrich Klaasen and Afghanistan wristspinner Noor Ahmad as their new additions.
Klaasen has emerged as one of the best T20 batters over the past year. Only Nicholas Pooran (2061) has scored more T20 runs than Klaasen (1970) as a middle-order batter since 2023. Klaasen represented Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2022 where he played five games, scoring 118 runs.
Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad has been among the top wrist-spinners in the T20 circuit. Since 2023, he has snapped 50 wickets at 23.4 runs apiece and an economy of 7.6.
Kings have retained three overseas players – their skipper Faf du Plessis, the Namibian all-rounder David Wiese and the Sri Lankan power-hitter Bhanuka Rajapaksa. They have released Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Chris Sole and Colin Munro who joined them as a replacement player last year.
They have kept their core of West Indies’ players intact, retaining Johnson Charles, Alzarri Joseph, Matthew Forde and Khary Pierre. The seamers Shadrack Descarte and McKenny Clarke are the two retained domestic players.
Kings have thus confirmed 12 players and will have five open slots in the playr draft.
The 2024 seaspon of CPL will begin August 30 onwards with the final scheduled on October 7. Kings will lock horns with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 1.
