A three-member Cricket South Africa (CSA) delegation arrives in Bangladesh for a routine inspection ahead of the Test series, starting October 21 in Dhaka. The delegation will visit both the venues - Mirpur and Chattogram - before leaving the country on September 24 (Tuesday). The delegation is expected to have a dicussion with the law enforcement agencies in the country.
"It's a routine visit," Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) Cricket Operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees told The Daily Star on September 21 (Saturday).
"This is nothing significant as all foreign teams maintain the same process. The delegation members will visit the Chattogram venue [Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium] and talk with law enforcement agencies tomorrow before repeating the same process in Dhaka the following day."
With political unrest in the country, this inspection is particularly significant for player safety. Recently, the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 was moved from the country to the UAE.
The South African side is expected to arrive on October 16. The first Test will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on October 21 and will be followed by the second Test in Chattogram from october 29 onwards. The matches are part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
