Both Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram found their touch after a streak of low scores. After Reeza Hendricks' departure in the third over, de Kock and Markram added 110 for the second wicket off 60 balls. De Kock, the player of the match, scored 74 off 40 balls. Markram contributed with 46 from 31 deliveries.
Harmeet push SA back
As South Africa were eyeing a 200-plus total, Harmeet Singh’s consecutive strikes pushed South Africa back. In the 12th over, de Kock played a full toss from Harmeet straight to the mid-wicket fielder. On the next ball, David Miller handed Harmeet a return catch which slowed South Africa down. The Proteas scored only 16 runs between overs 13 to 15.
Klaasen, Stubbs take SA to 194
Heinrich Klaasen and Tristan Stubbs added 53 off 30 balls for the fifth wicket, taking South Africa to 194, if not 200. Although USA bowled well, conceding only 53 runs in the final five overs.
SA keep USA in check
The South Africa bowlers kept USA in check in the first half of their run chase. After 10 overs, USA were 73/4 with Andries Gous still fighting it out there at 23 off 20 balls.
Gous, Harmeet stand up but SA survive
In an unexpected turn of events, USA made a storming comeback in the second half of their chase. Gous and Harmeet Singh added 91 runs off 43 balls, putting the pressure back on the Proteas. The duo attacked Tabraiz Shamsi (1/50) and by the time he finished his last over, USA needed 28 from the last two overs.
Harmeet then misplaced a full toss straight to Stubbs at deep mid-wicket and USA managed only nine runs there onwards.
