5 highlights from West Indies' thumping win over USA

In the battle of the co-hosts, it was the two-time champions that emerged on top

Gous falls at the wrong time

Only two players have more than 200 runs this T20 World Cup - Nicholas Pooran and Andries Gous

Gous was looking in great touch and hit a few sublime boundaries, but Alzarri Joseph got rid of him just when he was looking threatening. USA managed just 68 off 73 after Gous' dismissal.

Chase's career-best spell

Roston Chase has had very little to do with the ball this T20 World Cup, but when he got a chance to bowl his full quota of overs against the USA, he did not disappoint as he finished with 3/19 - his best figures in T20Is - to put West Indies firmly in control.

USA's mini recovery

At 88/6 in the 14th over, it looked like West Indies would bowl USA out inside 110, with a high chance of the batting side folding quickly.

However, little contributions from Milind Kumar (19), Shadley van Schalkwyk (18) and Ali Khan (14*) dragged US to a respectable 128.

Hope's blistering start

Shai Hope made best use of the opportunity to open the innings to slam an unbeaten 39-ball 82 to completely demolish USA and effectively knock them out of the 2024 T20WC.

He replaced the injured Brandon King in the XI today, and as things stand, he is in pole position to play the remaining matches of this competition.

WI win big to go past South Africa's NRR

Thanks to Hope and Nicholas Pooran's (27*) unbeaten 63-run stand for the second wicket, off just 23 deliveries, West Indies romped home by nine wickets with 55 balls to spare to take their net run-rate above South Africa's

As a result, the two-time champions have a slight edge as far as their semi-final hopes go but will have to beat South Africa in their final Super 8s game to progress.
