Somerset sign Archie Vaughan up until end of 2026

Michael Vaughan’s son Archie will represent Somerset till 2026 when his two-year deal will expire

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan’s son Archie Vaughan has signed a two-year-long deal with Somerset, his first professional contract. Unlike his dad, Michael, Archie will represent Somerset, with the 18-year-old being a top-order batter and an able off-spinner.

Archie will join a long list of children of former England players playing in the county, including Rocky Flintoff, Josh de Caires and Haydon Mustard.

Rocky made the headlines a few weeks ago when he smashed a blazing century for Lancashire’s second XI, with his game having a severe resemblance to his dad, Andrew.  Archie initially made his debut for the second XI, in 2022 and impressed the selectors with his 28-ball 35 against Yorkshire, in the Abu Dhabi T20 Counties Super Cup.

"It's something that I've worked extremely hard for and it's something that I've strived for since I was a kid, so to get the opportunity for a club where I've really enjoyed myself over the last few years is an honour," Archie told Somerset's club website.

"I will be looking to gain as much experience as I can and learn as much as I can from the more experienced players in the dressing-room."

Meanwhile, Somerset’s Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry too, showered praises on the youngster, stating that the 18-year-old has a ‘bright future’ ahead of him.

"Archie is a young man with a bright future ahead of him. Since joining the academy, he has demonstrated a genuine and strong desire to work incredibly hard and improve every facet of his game,” Hurry said.

"This hard work alongside his impressive on-field performances have led to second XI opportunities, in which he has flourished."
