Veteran Pakistan bowler Sohail Tanvir picked up Chitwan Rhinos' first-ever wicket in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2024. He struck off the very first ball of his spell, with Kathmandu Gurkhas' Stephen Eskinazi hitting it straight to the man at cover, where Amar Routela made no mistake.
The pressure was created in the first over by left-arm pacer Rijan Dhakal, who gave away just three runs. After a couple of singles off the first two balls, there were a couple of plays and misses that put pressure on the Kathmandu Gurkhas.
As a result, Eskinazi looked to break free, made room for himself on the on-side, looking to clear the off-side, but could not get his timing right. He was dismissed for 2 off 4 to give the Rhinos an ideal start.
Tanvir, a T20 veteran with close to 400 T20 wickets, was signed up by Chitwan after South African Marchant de Lange pulled out of the tournament. A T20 World Cup winner, the left-arm pacer has played in every top T20 league in the world, including the IPL, PSL, CPL, BPL and Vitality Blast, among others.
Earlier, Rhinos captain Kushal Malla won the toss and elected to field in their first-ever match of the tournament.
