On Thursday (May 30), the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced that the US embassy has denied Sandeep Lamichhane a visa, putting his T20 World Cup chances in ‘jeopardy’.
With the T20 World Cup starting on Saturday, there remains “slim or no chance” for Lamichhane to play in the global tournament. Only last week, Lamichhane took to social media to reveal that his US visa had been denied.
Chhumbi Lama, central committee member of the Cricket Association of Nepal, said their subsequent bid to push for a US visa had failed.
"There is a slim -- or no chance -- for him to be involved in the World Cup," Lama told AFP.
"The Cricket Association of Nepal had lobbied to the US embassy through different Nepal government agencies, but the visa was denied."
Earlier in the month, Lamichhane was acquitted of ra**** a young woman in Kathmandu, back in 2022. While Nepal had a chance to include Lamichhane, the May 25 deadline has passed, giving him no chance to represent the country.
Any alteration to Nepal's squad would now require approval from the ICC's event technical committee.
