Shreyanka Patil, who was the highest wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, is all set to become the first ever Indian woman to feature in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), having been picked by Guyana Amazon Warriors in the draft for the 2023 season.
The 20-year-old from Karnataka, who was one of the breakout stars in the inaugural WPL season, will be playing for Guyana alongside Shabnim Ismail, Suzie Bates and Stefanie Taylor among others.
Shreyanka was recently in the news for wreaking havoc in the Asian Cricket Council Women's Emerging Teams Cup, taking 9 wickets in 2 matches for India A, including picking a stunning 5/2 against Hong Kong Women.
The 2023 edition of the WCPL will be the second season of the competition. The tournament will kick-off on August 31, with the final being played in Trinidad on 10 September.
As things stand, the WCPL consists of only three sides - Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders. The inaugural edition of the competition (in 2022) was won by Trinbago Knight Riders, who beat Barbados Royals by 10 runs in the final.
