Shakib Al Hasan named ICC Player of the Month for March

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s Henriette Ishimwe, who scalped four wickets in four balls in the inaugural Under-19 World Cup clinched the women's award

International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Shakib Al Hasan and Rwanda’s Henriette Ishimwe as the winners of the Player of the Month awards for March in the Men's and Women's categories respectively.

The all-rounder was impressive in the 3-0 series win against England at home and has been at the forefront of Bangladesh's rise at the international level in the last couple of months.

"I am honoured to win the award and would like to thank the expert panellists who have voted for me. This is a recognition I greatly value because there are so many special performances in a month from a number of amazing cricketers," Shakib said in an ICC release.

“If I was to pick my highlight from the past month, it has to be the T20 series sweep against England, and, with the team continuing to perform beautifully as a unit in all departments, it is easier for me now to concentrate on my role and contribute," he further added.

Meanwhile, Henriette Ishimwe of Rwanda, who picked up four wickets in four deliveries in a league match of the Under-19 T20 World Cup against Zimbabwe, clinched the award in the women's category.

“I am humbled and honoured to win this award for my performances in the last month. I owe this award to the many people who have supported me throughout my journey in cricket."

To my coaches, who have invested countless hours into my training and development, and to my teammates, who have made all this possible. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the world of cricket and win more matches for my country," she concluded.
