Pakistan will commence their two-Test series away in South Africa later next week, but their ace speedster Shaheen Afridi will be featuring for Fortune Barishal in the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season.
Afridi, who was left out of the Pakistan squad for the aforementioned two Tests, has been granted a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and is set to be available for as many as five games.
"Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will play for Fortune Barishal in the upcoming BPL," the franchise said in a statement, reported Cricbuzz.
Set to be captained by Tamim Iqbal, Shaheen will join a host of big names in Barishal. Mushfiqur Rahim, Rishad Hossain, Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah are some of the big national players in the squad, while the franchise have also roped in the likes of Dawid Malan, Pathum Nissanka, Mohammad Nabi, Nandre Burger and Kyle Mayers.
Afridi is currently playing in the three-match ODI series for Pakistan against South Africa. He registered figures of 1/46 in the first ODI, where he took the big wicket of Heinrich Klaasen. Thanks to a Saim Ayub century, Pakistan won the clash by three wickets.
The 2024/25 BPL season will kick off on December 30, with Barishal taking on Durbar Rajshahi.
