Scotland to embark on historic tour of USA

The Kyle Coetzer-led side will play ODIs against the hosts and the UAE, which are part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2

Scotland will travel to the USA for the very first time to take on the hosts and the UAE, which form a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2.

Scotland are second in the table behind Oman, having played 16 fewer games than them, and won all four matches in the UAE just last month as they look to push for a place in the 2023 World Cup berth.

Scotland will play three matches against USA and one against the UAE, starting May 28. All matches will be played at the Mossa Stadium, Texas - marking the return of ODI cricket in the country for the first time since 2019.

Scotland, who made it to the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup last year, have named a 15-member squad for the tour, including an uncapped travelling reserve Brad Currie.

Due to County and T20 Blast Commitments Michael Jones, Brad Wheal, Josh Davey, George Scott Ruaidhri Smith and Mark Watt were unavailable for selection.

17-year-old Oliver Davidson, who was part of Scotland's squad for the Under-19 World earns a call-up. Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer says he is excited to have Davidson in the squad.

"It is exciting to see a new name in Olly Davidson in the squad. We need to keep blooding new young players and give them their opportunity when they arise,” the Scotland skipper said, according to a Cricket Scotland media release.

Left-arm orthodox bowler Hamza Tahir, on the other hand, will depart to Scotland after the third game - vs UAE on May 31 - for his wedding.

Speaking of the squad, Scotland head coach Shane Burger said, “The squad were fantastic on our last trip and managed to achieve all goals that were set. This trip will be tough and a new experience for everybody as it’s our first trip to the USA. We are excited to see good results and performances and to make the most of this exciting opportunity.”
