Sanju Samson was not considered for selection in Kerala’s 2024 Vijay Hazare Trophy squad after missing the preparatory camp in Wayanad. The Kerala skipper was a part of the Syed Mushtaq Ali squad but wasn’t available for the three-day preparatory camp in Wayanad.
“Sanju had sent an email stating that he would not be available for the camp. The team had a short camp in Wayanad without him. Naturally, we only considered those who were part of the sessions for selection. There has been no further discussion with him on the matter," KCA secretary Vinod S Kumar was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
In Samson’s absence, Kerala will be led by Salman Nizar. Nizar, an integral part of the Kerala set-up in the last few years, has scored 389 runs in List A cricket at an average of 25.93. He will be assisted by the likes of Rohan Kunnummal, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Jalaj Saxena, and Basil Thampi.
However, Kerala will be without senior batter Sachin Baby, who is recovering from an injury he sustained during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign. “Sachin’s recovery period is slotted till December 21, following which we will take a call on his inclusion," Kumar said.
Kerala has been slotted in Group E alongside Baroda, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Bengal, Tripura, and Bihar and will play all their group matches in Hyderabad.
