Riyan Parag Fined Right After First IPL Win As Skipper, Here’s Why

Parag has been fined INR 12 lakh for his team maintaining a slow over rate in the game played on March 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag was fined despite his team's six-run win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League

Parag has been fined INR 12 lakh for his team's slow over-rate in the game played on March 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Rajasthan batted first and scored 182/9, then restricted CSK to 176/6 to win the match.

According to the IPL's statement, Parag was fined under the IPL's Code of Conduct for his team's violation of the over-rate rules.

The statement said, "As this was his team's first violation in the season, Riyan Parag has been fined Rs 12 lakh. This is under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over rate."

Parag captained brilliantly in this match and gave his team its first win, but he had to pay a fine due to his slow over-rate. He is the second captain to be fined for slow over-rate in the IPL 2025 season. Earlier, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was also fined for the same reason. Pandya also had to miss the first game of the season because of his multiple slow over-rate offences last season.

The IPL has decided to impose just a fine on slow overrate this season and not ban players. Before this, the teams only got warnings. RR captain Riyan Parag has now become the second captain to be fined after Pandya.

RR’s next match will be against Punjab Kings on April 5 in Mallanpur.
