On Monday (July 1), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) announced the recently retired Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach and mentor for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. The 39-year-old had earlier announced his retirement following the conclusion of the 2024 IPL season.ย

Karthik finished his final season on a high, with 326 runs at a staggering strike rate of 187.36. Until his retirement, Karthik was one of the rare players in IPL history to have played all the editions of the cash-rich league.ย

Karthik had made 257 appearances at the IPL level, scoring 4,842 runs at an average of 26.32. While the 39-year-old played for Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, and Kolkata Knight Riders, it was at RCB where he found home, spending three years and plenty of individual success. In an earlier interview with Cricbuzz, Karthik had expressed his desire to take up coaching, and help the upcoming generation, with RCB's gig becoming his first coaching stint.ย
