The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction brought a lot of happiness for the uncapped Indian talent as they earned hefty amounts at the two-day event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Here are the top five costliest buys amongst the uncapped Indians:
Rasikh Salam Dar- INR 6 Cr- Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Rasikh Salam Dar from Jammu Kashmir reaped the rewards for his great form in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup T20 2024, where he picked up nine wickets in four games and won India an important game against Pakistan by going for only 17 runs in the 17th and 19th over, and also picked up a wicket.
The Kashmir-born continued his good showing after that as well, taking six wickets in the last three matches. The bidding for Dar began with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and then the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) got into the bidding war with their cross-Deccan rivals.
He was bought for INR 2 Cr and the Delhi Capitals (DC), his previous team, said that they wanted to exercise their Right to Match (RTM). However, RCB asked INR 6 Cr and DC decided not to go through with their RTM.
Naman Dhir- INR 5.4 Cr- Mumbai Indians
Naman Dhir, who was part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) set-up in the last year’s IPL and featured in seven matches in 2024, was once again a hot property. MI started the bidding, and RCB joined the race for the Punjab all-rounder, who has 200 runs in 13 T20 innings.
The two fought till his price went on to INR 1.2 Cr. RCB withdrew, and DC joined the bidding against MI. However, the Capitals pulled out of the race after a point, and so did Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Eventually, RR got him for 3.4 Cr. However, MI decided to use RTM and even after RR increased the price to 5.4 Cr, the Ambani group-owned franchise hung on to their player from the last season.
Nehal Wadhera- INR 4.2 Cr- Punjab Kings
Another all-rounder, Wadhera, was part of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) winning Punjab team of 2023-24 and was fiercely competed for by many teams. The bidding for the 24-year-old started with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), PBKS, DC and Gujarat Titans (GT) fought for him till Punjab eventually grabbed him for INR 4.2 Cr after his bidding started at INR 30 lakh.
Ashutosh Sharma- INR 3.8 Cr- Delhi Capitals
Ashutosh Sharma, who increased his price, showing off his prowess for PBKS in IPL 2024, was instantly bid for by RCB. RR joined the race and as the bidding picked up pace, DC and PBKS also dived into the bidding war. It was DC vs PBKS till the price reached INR 3.8 Cr. Eventually, DC had the Railways batter for that price.
Ashutosh made 189 runs in 11 innings at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 167, keeping the Kings alive in many encounters.
Priyansh Arya- INR 3.8 Cr- Punjab Kings
Priyansh Arya, the man who lit up the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) by hitting six sixes in an over, was picked for INR 3.8 Cr. The 23-year-old has featured in 11 T20s and five List-A games for Delhi. His bidding started at 30 Lakhs by the Capitals, and MI joined in. The battle then shifted to DC vs PBKS.
PBKS remained firm on their stance of buying him at any cost and fought RCB and DC to get him at INR 3.8 Cr.
