Rajat Patidar equals six-hitting record as RCB batter goes berserk in SMAT final

Patidar finished unbeaten on 81* as MP posted 174/8 in their quota of 20 overs

Rajat Patidar’s stocks keep rising as the Madhya Pradesh skipper, in the final of the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on December 15 (Sunday), equaled a six-hitting record after taking the Mumbai bowlers to the cleaners.

Patidar finished unbeaten on 81* as MP posted 174/8 in their 20 overs. The right-handed batter smoked a whopping six sixes. By doing so, he hit the joint-most sixes in a SMAT final. The only other person to hit as many sixes in a final is Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh, who hit six sixes against Baroda last year.

6 - Rajat Patidar vs Mumbai in 2024*

6 - Anmolpreet Singh vs Baroda in 2023

4 - Nehal Wadhera vs Baroda in 2023

4 - Abhimanyusingh Rajput vs Punjab in 2023

Patidar also posted the third-highest individual score in a SMAT final. Mayank Agarwal and Anmolpreet are the only other individuals to have scored over 80 in the final of a SMAT edition.

Highest individual scores in a SMAT final

113 - Anmolpreet Singh vs Baroda in 2023

85* - Mayank Agarwal vs Maharashtra in 2019

81* - Rajat Patidar vs Mumbai in 2024*

This was, in many ways, a one-man show from Patidar in the final. MP were in serious trouble at 54/4, and the team’s hopes entirely rested on their skipper when Venkatesh Iyer departed at 86/5 in the 13th over. Patidar, who was on 18 when Venkatesh departed, went on to add 63 more runs to take his side to a fighting total.
