Scenarios: RR in pole position for top two after SRH-GT washout

What does the SRH-GT washout mean for SRH, RR & CSK in their bid to make it to the top two? Let's find out

Rajasthan Royals

Points accumulated – 16

Remaining game – Kolkata Knight Riders (H)

Maximum points they can reach: 18

Current NRR: +0.273

How can they finish in the Top 2?

> RR will secure second spot if they win their final league game against KKR.

> If RR lose, they can only finish second if both CSK and SRH lose their final games respectively.

> If RR lose to KKR, CSK lose to RCB and SRH vs PBKS match gets washed out, then RR will finish second by virtue of having more wins (8) than SRH (7) despite having an inferior NRR. According to the IPL rules, number of wins takes precedence over NRR.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Points accumulated – 15

Remaining game – Punjab Kings (H)

Maximum Points they can reach: 17

Current NRR: +0.406

How can they finish in the Top 2?

> Winning their final group game won't be enough for SRH to qualify. They will need RR to either lose to KKR or for the RR vs KKR clash to be a washout.

> If SRH and RR both win their final league game, RR will secure the second spot since they will have 18 points compared to SRH's 17.

> If SRH lose their final game, they cannot finish in the top two.

Chennai Super Kings

Points accumulated – 14

Maximum points they can reach: 16

Remaining game: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (A)

Current NRR: +0.528 (2nd best NRR in IPL 2024)

How can they qualify and finish in the Top 2?

> CSK must just beat RCB in order to qualify for the playoffs, let alone top two.

> If RCB vs CSK ends in a washout, CSK will qualify as the fourth team as they will have 15 points.

> CSK can still qualify for the playoffs if they lose. For that, they will need to ensure they lose by a margin smaller than 18 runs or don't let RCB chase the target down inside 18.1 overs.

> If CSK beat RCB and both RR and SRH lose their final game, then they will finish second as they have a superior NRR than both RR & SRH.

> If CSK beat RCB, SRH vs PBKS gets washed out, and RR lose to KKR in their last game, CSK will secure the second spot via superior NRR.

> If CSK win and either of SRH or RR win their last league game, CSK will not be able to secure the second spot.
