St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have signed New Zealand’s hard-hitting all-rounder Josh Clarkson for the remainder of the Caribbean Premier League 2024. The 27-year-old has been brought in as a replacement for Sikandar Raza, who will miss the tournament because of an injury.
Clarkson, who was recently awarded his first New Zealand central contract, has featured in 89 T20s. He has slammed 1673 runs at an average of 27.88 and a strike rate of 147.40. The right-arm seamer has also claimed 11 wickets at an economy of 9.15.
The Patriots have also included USA’s wristspinner Mohammad Mohsin in their set-up. The 28-year-old has 21 wickets in 28 T20s at an economy of 7.71.
Talking about the series of injuries in the Patriots squad, head coach Malolan Rangarajan said: "Obviously, we started off the tournament with an unfortunate injury to Sikandar Raza, who was a well-thought-out and important pick for us.
"We've scrambled and we've tried to sign a replacement and we've had a few hiccups at the start of (the season), with Sherfane (Rutherford) missing out the first game and Rilee (Rossouw) getting injured in the first innings of our fielding. But I think the boys have responded brilliantly to all the challenges that've been posed at them."
The Patriots defeated the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in their first game of the season but have lost their last two encounters. They are currently second last on the points table. The Patriots’ next game is against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on September 4.
