Australia suffered their first One-Day International (ODI) loss at home in two years, as their 10-match unbeaten run at home was broken by Pakistan, who drubbed them by nine wickets at the Adelaide Oval on October 8 (Friday).
The last time Australia lost an ODI at home was on September 3, 2022, when Zimbabwe stunned them at Townsville. Since then, the Aussies have played a three-match ODI series against New Zealand, England, and West Indies and have won all the matches against each of the three visiting sides.
The first match against Pakistan in this series was a close affair, and the Aussies clinched the tie by two wickets.
After winning the toss and electing to field first, Haris Rauf went on a rampage and picked the fourth-best figures for a Pakistan pacer against Australia to bowl the hosts out for 163, which was their third-lowest total against Pakistan at home.
While Rauf finished with figures of 5/29 in his spell of 8.5 overs, Steven Smith top-scored with 35 for Australia. Chasing the target, the Pakistani team showed no nerves at all as the openers added 137 for the first wicket.
It looked like Australia were headed to their second-ever 10-wicket defeat in an ODI before Adam Zampa took out Saim Ayub, who played a magnificent knock of 82. Babar Azam finished things off in style with a six, while Abdullah Shafique remained unbeaten on 64 off 69 balls.
The third and final match of the series, which will also serve as the decider, will be played in Perth on November 10 (Sunday).
