It was a humdinger of a contest at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, as Biratnagar Kings and Pokhara Avengers locked horns in the first-ever Super Over in the inaugural edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Chasing 140, it was the Raymon Reifer show for the Avengers as he finished with an unbeaten 23-ball 34 to take the match to the Super Over. With seven needed off the final ball of the match, Reifer smashed a six over square leg to extend the match.
He did not disappoint in the Super Over as well, as he smashed two sixes and a four off Sandeep Lamichhane to set the Kings a target of 19 in the one over. The West Indies all-rounder also stepped up with the ball, as he restricted the Kings to five to help his side to a 13-run win in the one-over eliminator.
In the stipulated 20 overs, Reifer finished with figures of 2/33 to go with 0/5 in the Super Over.
Both the Kings and the Avengers were the two bottom-placed sides in the NPL 2024. With this win, the Kushal Bhurtel-led Avengers now have two wins from five matches, move to sixth spot on the table, and still have an outside chance of making the playoffs.
The Kings, on the other hand, are not fully out of it but certainly have a mountain to climb if they are to finish in the top four.
Pokhara will look to ease past Kathmandu Gurkhas next when the two sides meet on December 14 (Saturday). Biratnagar, on the other hand, are in action on December 13 (Friday) as they take on Chitwan Rhinos, who also go into this match at the back of a loss.
