Noor Ahmad, the left-arm leg spinner who has represented Afghanistan in nine ODIs and six T20Is, has been banned for a year by the International League T20 for breaching his contract with the Sharjah Warriors.
Ahmad played seven matches for Sharjah Warriors in the first season of the ILT20, where he picked up four wickets at an average of 37 and an economy of 7.04. The Warriors had signed him for one year and offered him another year’s extension for the 2024 season, which Ahmad refused to sign.
Noor Ahmad was instead playing for the Durban Supergiants in the SA20 in South Africa at the same time.
The Sharjah Warriors approached the ILT20 for redressal of this conflict, and their three-member disciplinary committee comprising league’s Chief Executive Officer David White, Head of Security and Anti-Corruption Col. Azam and Member Emirates Cricket Board Zayed Abbas, heard both sides and gave their verdict. The statement also mentioned that the committee reduced his punishment from 20 months, considering the 19-year-old Ahmad was a minor when signing his contract.
“The committee had initially recommended a 20-month ban but took into consideration the fact that Noor was a minor at the time of signing the Player Agreement and has represented to the committee that his agent had not informed him of the full terms of the contract and as such pardoned eight months from his original ban.”
