After the success of adding Ian Bell as the batting consultant on the England tour, Cricket Sri Lanka confirmed the addition of former South African batter Neil McKenzie as their batting consultant for the tour to the rainbow nation.
The announcement was made by the board on November 12 (Tuesday). The series will begin on November 27, with the first Test at Kingsmead in Durban.
McKenzie, part of the South African set-up that was world beaters between 2000 and 2009, has been working with various teams, including the Proteas. He played 58 Tests and scored 3253 runs, forming a great opening pair with Graeme Smith.
Speaking about the appointment, Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley De Silva said, "McKenzie will bring vital, in-depth insights about the South African conditions to help Sri Lankan players adapt to the challenge."
Bell, who was appointed on Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa, helped the team win the last Test of the three-match series, which propelled the Lankans towards what is now a great chance to get into the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25.
If Sri Lanka manage to win at least one game in South Africa and then sweep Australia at home, they would put themselves up as one of the contenders for the WTC final.
