Need to execute our skills with the bat for longer periods: Shane Watson

Delhi Capitals remain at the foot of the table following their 27-run defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk

After losing their first five games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) bounced back winning four out of their next five games. However, their resurrection suffered a blow following their thumping 27-run at the hands of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk.

DC assistant coach Shane Watson reckons that his side needs to execute their batting skills for longer period of time that would allow them to win more matches. Against CSK, DC lost their top three inside the powerplay, that dented their chase of 168.

"We have to find a way to execute our skills with the bat for a longer period of time. If we can do that, as we have done at certain stages of the tournament, then we can produce good batting performances," Watson said.

"We thought 167 was a par score on the wicket in Chennai. It was important for us to get off to a decent start, but unfortunately, we couldn't do that. It was also hard for us to rebuild after losing three wickets in the powerplay."

However, Watson sees some positives from the loss against CSK. "We've got to just keep working on getting better. We were excellent with the ball for the majority of CSK's innings," the former Australia all-rounder said.

DC will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Kotla on Saturday (May 13).
