Bangladesh continued to dominate Pakistan with the bat on Day 4, and Mushfiqur Rahim, the most experienced Test batter in the squad, led their batting effort on the day. He scored a colossal 191 runs and batted for 56.5 overs alone, running the all-pace Pakistani attack into the ground.
Pakistan had declared their first innings on 448/6 after big centuries from Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan. However, Bangladesh batters responded with equal might, and five batters out of the top seven scored at least a half-century. Rahim was the best amongst the lot, as he batted across two days and steered the Bangladesh innings.
The pace of the run scoring was grudgingly slow, but he stayed long enough to ensure that Bangladesh get an easy first innings lead over Pakistan. His innings also ensured that all the opposition pacers had to bowl more than 25 overs each, thus tiring them out for the second Test, which is set to begin on August 30.
Rahim had big partnerships with Mominul Haque (50), Shadman Islam (93), Litton Das (56), and Mehidy Hasan (77). These regular partnerships helped the visitors bat out crucial sessions, and now, after a record first innings lead of 117 at the end of Day 4, a Bangladesh defeat looks very unlikely.
