MS Dhoni Has Taken More Wickets Than These 3 Famous Bowlers in Champions Trophy
MS Dhoni bowled six overs in the 350 ODIs he played, and all of those overs came in the two editions of the Champions Trophy - 2009 and 2013
Former India captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni won every major ICC trophy as skipper, apart from amassing more than 17000 runs, taking 634 catches and effecting close to 200 stumpings across three formats in international cricket. To add to that, Dhoni also took one wicket in international cricket, which came during the 2009 Champions Trophy in South Africa.
With his medium pace, Dhoni knocked over West Indies’ Travis Dowlin. Dhoni bowled six overs in the 350 ODIs he played, and all of those overs came in the two editions of the Champions Trophy - 2009 and 2013. Dhoni bowled two overs against West Indies in the 2009 edition and four overs against Sri Lanka in the 2013 edition.
At the same time, there are some famous bowlers who don’t have a single wicket in the ICC Champions Trophy, and we look at three such bowlers.
Moeen Ali
The off-spin bowling all-rounder from England, Moeen Ali ended his career with 111 wickets in 138 ODIs but failed to take a single wicket in the ICC Champions Trophy despite bowling 15 overs across three innings. No other spinner has conceded more runs than Moeen (79) - Dhoni's former teammate at CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL) - in the Champions Trophy without taking a single wicket.
Reon King
Reon King, the right-arm paceman from Guyana, didn’t have a long career because of an injury but produced impressive numbers in his limited time for West Indies. King featured in 50 ODIs and picked up 76 wickets at an average of 23.77. He also played two matches in the 1998 Champions Trophy (then KnockOut Trophy) but couldn’t take a wicket despite bowling 20 overs.
Tino Best
Tino Best was a fiery paceman from West Indies and took 34 wickets in 26 ODIs at an average of 34.02. The right-armer featured in two editions of the Champions Trophy - 2009 and 2013 - and sent down 11.3 overs across two games. Best leaked 85 runs at an economy of 7.39 and didn’t take any wicket.
