On July 25 (Thursday), Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that pacer Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the two-match Test series against West Indies with a left side strain. Pacer Migael Pretorius replaces Coetzee in the squad, his second call-up since December 2020 against Sri Lanka.
Coetzee sustained the injury during his stint with Texas Super Kings at the Major League Cricket (MLC) in America. He then returned home and underwent further assessments by the Proteas medical team and has subsequently not been medically cleared to take part in the tour.
Pretorious, on the other hand, was rewarded for his 23-wicket season for Somerset in the ongoing County Championship, with an overall first-class tally of 188 wickets.
