Marcus Stoinis Makes Startling Comments About Revoking Saliva Ban In IPL
Stoinis was delighted by another rule change in the IPL, whereby the bowling team in evening matches can ask for a new ball after the end of the first 10 overs
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has said that the reintroduction of the use of saliva in the Indian Premier League (IPL) won’t really help the bowlers or have too much of an impact on the game. Although he agreed that it may pave the way for its reintroduction in white-ball cricket at the international level.
“It may pave the way for the rule to come back (in international cricket), but I don’t think it will make a massive difference in white-ball cricket,” Stoinis was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
However, the Punjab Kings player was more than delighted by another rule change in the IPL, whereby the bowling team, in evening matches, in the second innings, can ask for a new ball after the end of the first 10 overs to negate the dew factor.
“The changing of the ball halfway through the second innings is a great decision because the dew does play a big part in that stage of the game. So, it is something that hopefully does make it more of an even contest and the teams become less reliant on the toss,” said the 35-year-old.
Stoinis, who has retired from ODIs but still hopes to represent Australia in the 20216 T20 World Cup, said that his second stint with the Punjab Kings will be more fruitful as they look to finally end their title drought.
“We are here to win. This is a franchise that hasn’t found success yet, but we believe we have a great squad on paper. We have a real opportunity to build something for at least the next three years and establish sustained success for this team,” said the man who represented the Kings in 19 games between 2016 and 2019.
