Mahika Gaur, the 18-year-old left-arm pacer from England, has withdrawn from the upcoming edition of the Women’s Hundred to recover from her side strain injury.
Gaur was retained by Manchester Originals after an impressive season last year, during which she bowled at an economy of 6.2 runs per over. She last played for Thunder in the Charlotte Edwards Cup in May where she picked 3/39 in her four overs. Consequently, she was ruled out of the home series against New Zealand. She will use this one-month window to continue rehabilitation and get back to full fitness.
The left-arm pacer has featured in two ODIs and 23 T20Is. She made her international debut, aged 12 for the UAE, playing 19 T20Is for them. She qualified to play for England in 2023. In August 2023, she made her England debut against Sri Lanka.
Thus, the withdrawal from the Hundred is a blow to Gaur’s chances of claiming a spot in England’s squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in October. With less than three months left and no other international cricket scheduled before the World Cup, the Women’s Hundred is quite significant for England’s squad.
The fourth edition of the Women's Hundred kickstarts on July 23 with the final scheduled on August 18.
