Looking at India-Pakistan match like we did this game: Rohit Sharma

In a long tournament like the World Cup, it is easy for complacency to kick in, but Rohit warned against it

On the back of a four-fer from Jasprit Bumrah and later a century and half-century from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, respectively, India beat Afghanistan by eight wickets in Delhi to secure the second round on a high. With Pakistan turning up next, there have been many eyeballs on the Rohit Sharma-led side, but they are unfazed about it.

Rohit, who scored his sixth ODI World Cup century on his way to 131 runs, stated that they have no over-the-top approach to take on Pakistan but will take it as any other game and prepare accordingly.

“Was a good win for us. Important to get momentum at the start,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony after beating Afghanistan in Dubai. “You will be put under pressure. There will be a spell from the opposition, and we'll have to absorb the pressure. We absorbed it well," the Indian skipper added.

“Looking at India Pakistan like we did this game. Don't want to worry about external favours. We'll treat every game like that: how the pitch plays, conditions and combinations, etc.”

In a long tournament like the World Cup, it is easy for complacency to kick in, but Rohit warned against it. He stated that it is important to move forward while accounting for different styles of play.

“For now, it's leaving what's happened aside and moving on. You've got players with different skill sets bringing different attributes, which is good for the team. We have batters who play freely and fearlessly. When you have all-round players, things take care of themselves. In WCs, you need to respond with different styles of play.”
