Hobart Hurricanes batter Lizelle Lee smashed 12 fours and as many sixes on her way to an unbeaten 150 off just 75 to register the highest individual score in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) history. This is the fifth highest score in Women's T20s, and the highest-ever by a full-member nation batter.
She achieved this feat in Match 21 of the tournament against Perth Scorchers in Sydney on November 10 (Sunday). Moreover, her 12 sixes in an innings is also a a world record for most sixes hit in a single Women's T20 innings, going past the 11 Grace Harris hit last season against the Scorchers.
The South African batter got to her century in just 51 deliveries.
The Hurricanes were in a spot of bother when they lost two wickets inside three overs, with Chloe Ainsworth doing the damage. But that's when Lee joined hands with skipper Elyse Villani, and the duo put on 114 runs of just 55 deliveries. Villani contributed just 14 off 19 deliveries in that partnership, further going on to show Lee's dominance.
Before this knock, Lee had scored 7, 18, 38, 4 and 4 in her previous five innings in the tournament. With this 72-run victory, the Hurricanes move to second in the points table, having won three of their six matches so far.
"It's one of those days. I won't say everything came off the middle because it didn't, but things just went my way," she said after her record-breaking knock.
"Coming through a little dip like that, having the support of the group and family was incredible."
