Live in present, enjoy the highs and lows alike: Arshdeep Singh's life mantra

Arshdeep has scalped 86 wickets in 55 matches, the second-most by any player in the duration from his debut till now

Arshdeep Singh, India’s go-to left-arm pacer in the white-ball format, will be completing two years in international cricket during the second T20I of the three-match series against Bangladesh on October 9 (Wednesday). However, the Punjab-born did not feel like he had been with the national side for so long.

“I am enjoying my game and didn’t even realise how these two years flew by,” Arshdeep said in the pre-match press conference on October 8 (Tuesday) in New Delhi, where the match will take place at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium

Asked about his plans, Arshdeep brushed aside the question, saying that he doesn’t believe in the future and only lives in the present. “Kal ki kal dekhi jayegi (I will think of tomorrow when tomorrow comes),” were the exact words of the speedster.

“I just try to stay in the present, and enjoy the highs and lows, that is my focus. My life’s mantra is to enjoy the present. Today is my ‘rest’ day, so I will enjoy it,” he added.

Arshdeep was recently seen in the Duleep Trophy 2024, where he picked up 13 wickets in three matches and knocked on the doors of the Indian team for a call in the longest format.

“Playing in different formats teaches players a lot. In red ball, you get more overs to bowl, it teaches you patience, here (in T20s) you don’t need patience, you have to think about what a batter can do.” said the left-arm quick.

Since making his debut in international cricket, Arshdeep has scalped 86 wickets in 55 matches. This is the second-most number of wickets by any player in the duration from his debut till now. Hong Kong’s Ehsan Khan is the only bowler who has picked up more wickets than him.
