Dhananjaya ends it in style with a boundary over extra cover to bring up the win. The allrounder remains not out on 66 off 42 balls to guide the Islanders to a thumping win.

Afghanistan had put a lid on Sri Lanka's scoring in the powerplay by removing Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka by the eighth over with their score at 46. However, Charith Asalanka (19 off 18 balls) and Dhananjaya added 64 for the third wicket to resurrect the chase. From there on, it was smooth chase for Sri Lanka, who wrap up the win with nine balls remaining.

Afghanistan looked rusty in every department and paid the price for it. They were unable to accelerate after scoring 42 in the first six overs. Wanindu Hasaranga 3-13 and Lahiru Kumara 2-30 put brakes on their scoring to restrict them to 144/8 which was never enough to defend.

Don't go anywhere, we got the big clash between England and New Zealand coming up next.

Dhananjaya pulls Farooqi to long-on where Rashid slides to save the winning boundary and saves two runs. However, his knee lodges while stopping the ball and comes off in a snap awkwardly. The legspinner is in extreme pain and is helped off the field by the medical team.

Rajapaksa tries to play a late cut off Mujeeb but gets a thick edge which comes off the keeper's wrists, who gathers himself and takes an easy catch. The spinner appeals but the umpire says that the batter's walking back.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa c Rahmanullah Gurbaz b Mujeeb Ur Rahman 18(14b, 3x4)

Dhananjaya plays a superb scoop over the keeper's head to bring down the equation to single digits. He then pulls a short ball from Mujeeb to the deep square leg boundary.

Nabi brings back Farooqi for another over as Dhananjaya creams him over extra cover to bring down the equation further. 

He calls for a single after knocking Mujeeb to square leg before an overthrow at the non-striker's ends results in two more runs which brings up the righthander's fifty in 36 balls.

Rashid bowls an absolute ripper of a leg-spinner as Rajapaksa leans in for a sweep and gets hit on the thigh. Rashid is confident to take a review and Afghanistan had no other option but to go for it. Ball-tracking shows that the ball was missing the off stump. Rashid ends the over with another ripper which beats Rajapaksa all ends up.

Not too often we see Rashid being furious with himself. He has to be told by Mujeeb to calm down as he goes back to his fielding position.

Sri Lanka need 24 from 24 balls.

More hurt of Afghanistan. Bhanuka Rajpaksa guides a short ball on the pads behind the keeper for a boundary and then lofts the pacer straight down the ground for another boundary.

Adding salt to the injury, Naib drops a one-handed return catch after Dhananjaya gets toe end of the bat straight back to him. Sri Lanka can do it easy from here, but count out Afghanistan at your own risk.

Sri Lanka need 27 off 30 balls.

Dhananjaya brings up the 100 for Afghanistan with a single before Rashid Khan's wrong-un prompts Asalanka to heave on the leg side and hit straight to Omarzai at long-on.

Sri Lanka need 45 runs from 39 balls.

Dhananajaya smokes Nabi for a six straight down the ground with ease while Asalanka drives Azmatullah Omarzai through long-off for a boundary.

The lefthand, righthand combination has done well to knock the ball through the gaps and run twos with ease.

12 off Nabi's over and 10 off Omarzai's over.

Not often do we see Rashid Khan concede in double-digits in a single over. Dhananjaya gets a lucky bottom edge which beats the keeper for a boundary before he gets in the slot from Rashid which is smoked over deep midwicket with ease.

Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi brings himself in to the attack and is able to swing the ball into the right hander. Just four singles come off the over and we have the drinks break.

Charith Asalanka calls for a quick single after driving to mid-off and dives at the non-striker's end. The throw is wide and hits him on the helmet at full pace. The southpaw looks fine though as the team doctor does a routine concussion check.

Rashid Khan is brought into the attack as he starts with a wrong-un that beats Dhananjaya all ends up.

The legspinner gives away another single before firing another googly that beats Mendis. The right hander goes for a slog sweep off the next ball and gets a top edge which is taken keeper Gurbaz comfortably.

Kusal Mendis c Rahmanullah Gurbaz b Rashid Khan 25(27b, 2x4 1x6)

Fareed Ahmad comes over the wicket to Mendis and bowls it in the slot. The right hander obliges and smacks straight over the bowler's head and clears the ropes.

The left-armer bowls a fuller length ball which is too easy for Dhananjaya to drive through extra cover for a boundary.

Dhananjaya de Silva tries to hit Mujeeb on the up and is lucky to have fielder at cow corner. Mendis also hits a ball in the air to long-on and runs a couple.

Afghanistan have been quite good in the powerplay, but will have to tighten the screws with two more wickets to stay in the game.

Almost got Mendis! Mohammad Nabi brings in the left-arm pace of Fareed Ahmad who goes short and gets punished by Mendis for two boundaries at deep mid-wicket.

Mendis hits the ball to mid-on and scampers for a quick single as Rashid Khan takes aim at the non-striker's end and misses by a whisker. Could've easily got Mendis had it hit the stumps.

Another tight over from Mujeeb who is getting quite a bit of turn off the surface. He is getting the drift and revs on the ball right cramping the batters for space.

The Afghans are fired up! Farooqi keeps hitting the off stump to keep Mendis completely under check. Two times the right hander finds room to drive on the off side, but finds the fielders. It's a maiden.

Mujeeb strays outside off stump which is dispatched to the deep square boundary by Nissanka before foxing him with a carrom ball which takes off the surface and goes past Nissanka's outside edge to rattle the off stump. Its an incredible ball that turns ever so slightly from the leg stump and dips a bit.

Pathum Nissanka b Mujeeb Ur Rahman 10(10b, 2x4)

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis walk out to the middle for the chase as Fazalhaq Farooqi runs in with the new ball and lands it just outside the off stump which beats Nissanka.

The opener does well off the next ball by guiding the ball through square with authority for a boundary before taking a single at square leg.

Nissanka does the same after Farooqi strays on the pads twice for two wides and then a single.

Mendis is unable to beat a diving Mujeeb at short fine leg and has to stay back in his crease. There is a tiny box on the advertisement board  infront of the sightscreen as Mendis asks it to be removed before playing out the final ball of the over.

That's the third wicket of the day for Hasaranga! He foxes Mujeeb with a slower, flatter delivery to come out of his crease and miss it completely. Mendis pause for a second to see the batter turn around before taking off the bails.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman st Kusal Mendis b Wanindu Hasaranga 1(2b)

Afghanistan looked measured in the powerplay by moving to 42 for no loss before going start-stop since then. Lahiru Kumara (2-30) and Wanindu Hasaranga (3-13) then put brakes on the scoring in the middle overs. Sri Lanka could've paid dearly for multiple fielding errors, but luckily escaped thanks to slow scoring from Afghan batters.

Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (28 off 24), Usman Ghani (27 off 27) and Ibrahim Zadran (22 off 18) were the only bright spots. Afghanistan saw a couple of boundaries at the end from Mohammad Nabi (13 off 8) and Najibullah Zadran (18 off 16) to take them to 144/8.

Legspinner sends back legspinner! Hasaranga bowls a flipper which Rashid tries to come forward and play on the off side. The ball sneaks past his bat and rattles the stumps.

Rashid Khan b Wanindu Hasaranga 9(8b, 1x4)

Sri Lanka are being undone and then getting back into the game all because of their fielding. Rashid Khan smacks Rajitha to the deep point boundary before Nabi gets a thick edge missed by keeper Mendis. Rashid then hits the next ball straight to Dasun Shanaka at cover, who drops a sitter. The Lanka captain makes up for it by backpedalling off the next ball and taking a bottom edge from Nabi.

Mohammad Nabi c Dasun Shanaka b Kasun Rajitha 13(18b, 1x4)

Nabi dabs to midwicket and is okay with a single, but Naib rushes from the striker's end for a second. He is sent back quickly by Nabi as he loses his bat on his way back. He tries roll on his shoulders to get back, but the keeper removes the bails in that time. Naib clutches his shoulder in pain as he walks back.

Gulbadin Naib Run-Out[Pathum Nissanka/Kusal Mendis] 12(14b)

Nabi starts with two hard doubles which is helped along by Rajitha's no-ball. He gets a get half volley which he puts away to the deep extra cover boundary.

Najib goes fishing outside off stump and out his crease against Dhananjaya as Hasaranga takes a good catch on the long-on fence.

Najibullah Zadran c Wanindu Hasaranga b Dhananjaya de Silva 18(16b, 1x4)

Shanaka gives Dhananjaya de Silva and over, strangely at the death. Najib straight away gets on the offensive by smacking the off spinner to the deep square leg boundary.

Gulbadin targets the space at midwicket and guides the ball into it for a quick double.

Gulbadin Naib, is the new batter at the crease and takes a single at long-on to bring up Afghanistan's hundred. This is a good place to be in right now but the last five overs will need a lot of boundaries.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, need couple of more wickets and Najib's wicket will be more preferrable.

Kumara adjusts his length after spotting Ibrahim coming out his crease and bowls it back of the length which is flat batted straight to the fielder at mid-off. Just the right time for Sri Lanka to strike.

Ibrahim Zadran c Bhanuka Rajapaksa b Lahiru Kumar 22(18b, 1x4 1x6)

After bowling two miserly overs, Theekshana strays in his lines and gets swatted away to deep extra cover fence by Ibrahim before getting smacked straight over the head for a six.

There are also two doubles, a wide and two singles, which makes it 17 runs for the over.

Sri Lanka are ramping up the pressure. Hasaranga gets a throw wide off the stumps at the non-striker's and has a no-look flick on to the stumps but Ibrahim Zadran grounds his bat just in time.

Najibullah Zadran calls for a quick single after dabbing Hasaranga to short cover. Ibrahim could've been gone if the fielder had thrown it to the keeper, but the throw is ferocious and into the keeper's pads.

Hasaranga manages to fox Ibrahim with a wrong-un and is confident that it was out. Shanaka reviews it an ball-tracking show the ball missing the leg stump by a good distance.

Hasaranga foxes Ghani with a googly which is heaved straight to the man at deep midwicket. Afghanistan's boundaries have dried up in the last few overs.

Usman Ghani c Dasun Shanaka b Wanindu Hasaranga 27(27b, 2x4 1x6)

Theekshana varies his pace to give three singles off his first five balls before Dhananjaya chases down a late cut from Ghani to stop a boundary at third man.

Shanaka brings in Wanindu Hasaranga for the eighth over as Sri Lanka concede two overthrows and a single which brings up the 50 in quick time. Afghanistan need one more aggressive innings just to keep Sri Lanka unsettled.

Kumara sends a bouncer fizzing past new man Ibrahim Zadran but it is a wide. HE bowls another wide down the leg side and a steaming ball outside off stump which sneaks through the keeper's gloves for a couple.

Five runs from the over.

Kumara strikes with the first ball off his second over. A fuller-length delivery which moves into Gurbaz and rattles of his middle stump. The right hander goes for a wild swing and is beaten by the pace.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz b Lahiru Kumar 28(24b, 2x4 2x6)

Dasun Shanaka brings in the spin of Maheesh Theekshana for the final powerplay over.

He gets the drift right off the first two balls to give away a single on the off side. Gurbaz goes on his backfoot to dab the next ball on the leg side for a single before Ghani scampers for a single at short cover.

Just four singles from the over.

It's measured start by Afghanistan, but Ghani needs to be more proactive with his running if Gurbaz needs to accelerate.

Madushan keeps it full on the middle stump which is dispatched to long-on by Ghani for a boundary.

He manages to keep it on the good length outside off stump for the next ball which slashed through the air where Dhananjaya De Silva dives and gets his fingertips to the ball. It was too wide off the allrounder anyways.

Madushan again bowls full to Gurbaz, who muscles it over cow corner for a six.

The batters run two more singles before Madushan takes pace off the ball completely. Gurbaz is left fuming once again after he dabs on the offside, but is denied a quick single by Ghani.

Lahiru Kumara comes in for the fourth over and concedes a boundary off the second ball when Ghani lofts a half-volley outside off stump past extra cover.

The speedster manages to surprise Ghani with a steaming bouncer but the opener gets back at him with a boundary straight down the ground.

Look behind you Charith! Asalanka backpedals into the boot of Ghani at the bowler's end and then has a word with the batter after seemingly piercing his foot with a spike. Sure, the ground is slippery due to the early rain, but checking your twelve near the pitch is necessary.

Gurbaz dances down the pitch to cut the swing of Rajitha and slams it straight over mid-off for a six.

A single more from the over makes it seven runs for the over.

Pramod Madushan, who has recovered from an injury, runs in for the second over and bowls straight on the middle stump to Gurbaz. The right-armer goes for the fourth stump line after spotting Gurbaz shuffle across his stumps and misses the bat.

Gurbaz slashes hard at the next ball and gets it to race to the deep point boundary before hitting a half-volley back at the bowler. Madushan dives to his right and manages to get a fingertip to it. Gurbaz is halfway down the pitch, but Ghani sends him back scampering to the striker's end. Maheesh Theekshana takes aim at the stumps, but the throw is too tame to hit.

Gurbaz fumes at his partner, gets up, adjusts his dislocated thigh pad and drives through the off side for a couple.

For the first time in ten days, Afghanistan take to the field under bright sunny conditions as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Usman Ghani walk out to the middle in absence of injured Hazratullah Zazai.

Kasun Rajitha marks his spot for the first over and bowls a superb ball shaping away from Gurbaz who manages to get the ball leave his outside edge. He gets some swing off the second ball which again beats him. 

There is a third dot ball in a row as Gurbaz lets the ball outside off stump go past his bat and dances forward with a heave on the leg side and misses it completely. He manages to defend the next ball for another dot.

He does well off the next ball by moving across his stumps and dabbing it to backward point for a single.

Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi wins the toss and elects to bat first.

Fast-bowling allrounder Gulbadin Naib is in the starting XI for opening batter Hazratullah Zazai, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to abdominal injury.

Sri Lanka make a change of their own. Chamika Karunaratne makes way for pacer Pramod Madushan.

Looks like the weather forecast can be relied upon. There has been rain early in the morning, but there is no signs of it now. There is a bit of sunlight peeking through the overcast sky as well. The Gabba pitch has few crumbly spots, says Nasser Hussain. There is a chance that the batters will be surprised by the bounce on the pitch. There was also some hint of spin in the last two matches, so lets see who'll come good.

Hello and welcome to the cricket.com's live coverage of the 2022 T20 World Cup Super 12s match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka at The Gabba.

A total of five matches in the tournament  have been washed out due to heavy rain. Australia, England, New Zealand, Ireland, Zimbabwe and South Africa have all shared points but Afghanistan were the worst-hit by inclement weather. After starting their campaign with a five-wicket loss to England, Afghanistan saw their Super 12 clashes against New Zealand and Ireland were washed out. As a result, they are bottom of Group 1 with just two points and desperately need a win.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have been hit with a number of injuries with two of their pacers being injured and one of the replacement pacers getting injured. There are still fitness concerns over batters Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka. They are second from the bottom in the group with two points from their win against Ireland. However, they need to win this game to be considered alive in this tournament.
