Left-handers could have probably gone after Axar a little bit: Hardik Pandya

Axar Patel only bowled two overs, giving away 24 runs as Mumbai Indians failed to control the momentum in their favour

Mumbai Indians were handed their sixth loss in the IPL 2024 after a resurgent Delhi Capitals beat them by 10 runs in yet another high-scoring encounter in Delhi. Chasing 258, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya kept them in the run chase but once the Hyderabad batter was dismissed, things became even more dire for the five-time champions.

"Because of the kind of games and how the bowlers are under pressure, we backed ourselves to chase this. We could have taken a couple of more chances in the middle overs. The left-handers could have probably gone after Axar [Patel] a little bit; it's something we missed out in terms of game awareness,” Hardik Pandya said in the post-match presentation.

Playing his fifth IPL match, Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk scored a 27-ball 84 to take his tournament total to 247. In the process, he has maintained a strike rate of 237.50 - something that Pandya couldn’t have enough of.

“It was quite amazing the way Fraser-McGurk batted; he took calculated risks, and he played the field really well. It shows the fearlessness of youth,” Pandya added.
